We Love Weekends!

I must admit, last week was pretty rough on me. I did something new and different at work. It's always nice to do something new, but by 6:00pm last Friday, I was definitely ready for the weekend. The good news, someone was thinking of me!

I received a call from a friend asking if the fam would like to join her fam, and another school fam, at the Westin up in Scottsdale. I was tired, but after talking it over with Rod, we decided that we'd make the trip up there and let the kids swim while the adults had some good 'ol adult time. It was fantastic!

There was so much to do for the kids! Yes, there was a pool, and a lazy river, and camp fires, and they even put up a screen for a movie between 2 palm trees for an outdoor movie that you could watch while lazily floating in the pool. The movie on Friday was The Spiderwick Chronicles. All this and the kids decided it was going to be more fun to play elevator tag. Oh, well.

The adults had it pretty good. We had drinks and dinner inside, looking out over what I must admit was a beautiful golf course. There was a band playing great music. And of course, the conversation was pretty fantastic. A huge thanks to my friends Mags who convinced us to stay. We stayed the whole weekend! Other than the fact that it was roughly 111 degrees outside, you would never know that we were so close to home.

The bad is news is this.... My family needs, needs, NEEDS to remember to use sunblock! I am the only one who didn't get what looks like 2nd degree sunburn. Hopefully they'll remember that the next time they decide to spend hours upon hours out in the sun (which will be this weekend).

I hope you all had as glorious a weekend as we did!

Dynamite Express Update

Imagine you hear a drum roll. We did on Sunday. As we anxiously waited for 6pm to roll around, there was a lot of tv watching going on on the homefront. It was a fantastically lazy day. Until 530pm. Since Sydney had a birthday party on Monday, I thought it would be good to actually leave the bedrooms/couch/computer, and pick up a gift before going to the studio. What we found was relief. Sydney is dancing with Dynamite Express again this year in the HotShots group. That felt like a given. There is a lot of talent there this year, and even though I am a proud mama, I couldn't just assume that she would make the advanced group called the KnockOuts. She got a big hug when we saw her name on the list! Another fun filled year of make up, costumes, performances, traveling and countless hours in Gilbert at the dance studio.
Congratulations, Sydney! We're all proud of you!

So I mentioned change, right? Well, I'll call it change, but I'll call it an adventure, too. I was approached by last year's Chair to take on the role of Chairperson of the DE Booster club, and graciously accepted. This being the third year with the group, I thought I might have a idea of what I might be agreeing too. After two days of meetings thus far, I decided that this is going to be some ride! I'm very thankful that several people were very welcoming, and it's going to be a great DE year!! I know that what little time I feel like I have sometimes will be filled with planning and delegating and doing. I'm so excited! I think I finally have a hobby!

I will actually have a 2 week "break" from DE before I have to go full throttle, so in the meantime, I have every intention of making the best of this free time.

Last night Ky, Syd, R and I all went over to M&M's for their daughter's birthday party. D stayed home because she didn't feel well. She missed out on burgers and cake, but she got some well needed rest. Kyle was kind of the helper, kind of the person who got to partake in some swimming and food and well, just being "big brother" to all of the girls. Even on a Monday night, there is nothing better than hanging out with good friends. Syd stayed with some other girls for the slumber part of the birthday party, but there wasn't a whole lot of slumber. She had a fever of 102 at about 1am. Hopefully it was nothing contagious, because otherwise I'll have some explaining to do to all those parents. She feels better today. So the victory for today is ... no one is under the weather!

I found my camera, so pictures are coming. All the girls are getting haircuts tomorrow, so maybe we'll have to post some before and after shots.

Summer Is Officially Here

I'm always up for a fresh start. It doesn't have to be January 1st in order for me to want to implement some changes. My first major change took place about a week and a half ago. June 12th to be exact. Kyle and Daryn arrived from Cedar Rapids to spend some summertime here while school is out. It has been SO awesome to have them down here! I picked them up from the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport and, since Sydney had dance recital dress rehearsal AND dance recital the same day, I whisked them up from the airport, got them something to eat, stopped and home, then drove back to Queen Creek with Daryn while Sydney performed.

A lot has happened for Kyle and Daryn in the last week and a half. Let's see.... Recital took up 3 days. They went to a water park in Tempe called Big Surf. They were there for almost 8 hours. The good news is that they had fun. The bad news is that, since Iowa doesn't have nearly the amount of sun that Arizona does, there was too much sun, too little SPF. I feel pretty comfortable saying that Kyle will probably fully support SPF 70+ going forward.

Father's Day was fun for all. There was some shopping involved. And even better, there was sushi involved. Everyone took part in edamame and rolls. And what I found out was that no matter what, chicken wings have their place.

They met some friends of ours that are really wanting to make their stay here as fun and comfortable as possible, knowing that Rod and I still have to maintain our full time job status while they're here. So my friend Maggie decided that shopping would be fun. And boy did they have fun! They went to a mall in Scottsdale with one of Maggie's friends. I didn't put any limits on it, and found that even teenagers can have good taste.

This past Saturday evening, we went to a bbq at one of M&M's friend's homes. Everyone was so warm and welcoming (we didn't know anyone), and there were kids EVERYWHERE!! I can't find my camera, or I would love to show you how rough it is here.

That's just a brief synopsis of Kyle and Daryn so far. As soon as I find my camera I'll post some pictures. I'm sure I left some stuff out, but hey.... this is my first attempt at participating in the blogging world. Another change I decided to implement.

Oh, on another note... Sydney had dance tryouts yesterday afternoon. Anticipation is the worst, isn't it! Results get posted this evening by 6pm. I'm sure we'll be stopping by the studio after some din din. In case you didn't know, this is the studio she goes to: http://dctoo.com/. She is on the home page 3 times. Can you find her?
